2025 UK University Entry Requirements Update

1.2025 UK University Entry Requirements Update

1.University of Oxford

The 2025 application timeline for the University of Oxford has been released. While the overall course offerings and entry requirements remain largely unchanged, there are minor updates to admissions tests and recommended subjects.

For the 2025 application cycle, the AMELAT admissions test has been discontinued. This change affects the following courses:

  • Asian and Middle Eastern Studies
  • European and Middle Eastern Languages
(Applicants are still required to take the MLAT exam)

For Medicine, the admissions test has changed from BMAT to UCAT.

2.University of Cambridge

Cambridge’s A-Level entry requirements fall into two main categories: AAA and AA*A. Generally, humanities and social sciences have slightly lower grade requirements, while science and engineering subjects require higher grades.
For 2025 entry, the most significant change is the increase in IB requirements—rising from the previous 40–42 points to a new range of 41–42 points for all courses.

The eight courses that require AAA at A-Level include:

  • Computer Science

  • Economics

  • Engineering

  • Mathematics

  • Medicine

  • Natural Sciences

  • Psychological and Behavioural Sciences

3.Imperial College London

Imperial College London has released its 2025 undergraduate admissions guide early this year. In addition to continuing the shared ESAT exam with Cambridge for physics and engineering programmes, it will also start using Cambridge’s TMUA test for computer science admissions.

Programmes requiring the TMUA entrance exam include:

  • Computer Science

  • Economics

  • Finance

  • Data Science

4.University College London

UCL has announced three new undergraduate programmes:

  • Communications BA

  • Youth, Society and Sustainable Futures BA

  • The Business and Health BSc, along with the other two new programmes, have minimum A-Level entry requirements ranging from ABB to AAB, making them very accessible for students aiming to apply to arts, business, and social science fields.

2. Introduction to TMUA & ESAT

Starting in autumn 2025, Imperial College London will introduce two entrance exams for selected undergraduate programmes.

Many programmes will use the Test of Mathematics for University Admission (TMUA) or the new Engineering and Science Admissions Test (ESAT) as part of the 2025 selection process.
These assessments evaluate some of the core skills needed to succeed at Imperial College London.

1.TMUA

If you are applying for Imperial College courses in 2025, the following programmes require the TMUA:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (including Joint Mathematics and Computer Science)

  • Economics

  • Finance

  • Data Science
