1)Test Items
Part I:English
English reading and writing sections were separated sections for test takers in the traditional SAT exam. In the Reading section, the questions were placed at the end of a long article, and the test takers have to search for the required information back and forth between the article and questions to choose the most appropriate answer for each question.
Part II:Math
There were also 2 sections in Part II, in which calculators were not allowed in the first section but allowed in the second section.
2)Test Duration
Test duration is set by the authority, every one must wait until the time is over, and have to wait for invigilators to collect all the test materials.
3)Score Announcement
Test takers must wait for 4 ~ 6 weeks to get the test result.
2.Changes of Digital SAT®
After the College Board tested a mock Digital SAT Exam, data shows that 80% of the participants were more comfortable and stressless while taking the Digital SAT. The changes are as follows:
1)Combined Reading & Writing Section
- Every part will be divided into 2 phases, and each phase will give test takers 30~35 mins to answer the questions.
- The SAT will be implementing an adaptation exam system, which will alter the questions’ difficulty in the second phase of the exam according to test takers’ performance in the first phase.
- The traditional Reading and Writing exam will be consolidated into one part, and the articles will be shortened with only a question matched per article.
- Test time is shortened significantly , as every article will be shorter than 100 words and only go with one question which will lessen the searching time for answers.
2)Math
- Calculator is allowed during the entire math section with the New Digital SAT Exam.
- Test takers are only allowed to bring one calculator and can not bring another tablet as a substitution.
3) Impact for Test Takers of Using Their Own Devices
While using a device which you are not familiar with during the exam might be a tough challenge, the digital SAT® allows students to bring their own devices when taking the exam. On the other hand, for those who don’t possess one, the authority will prepare several devices for you to borrow.

- Valour Note: We encourage students to choose the school they’re studying in as the test center. owever, if a pupil’s school is not a test center, then early enrollment is a must to prevent being forced to go to another city to take SAT®.
4.SAT® Superscore
1)What is SAT® Superscore?
What on earth is the SAT® Superscore? In short, it’s a total grade that only counts the highest grade for each subject in the SAT®. Let’s pretend a student has taken several SAT® tests, th student’s superscore will be added from the highest English and Math score.
Thus, many mightsuggest taking more SAT® exams to vye for higher scores for a better SAT superscore, but is this actually the truth?
2)How to Calculate SAT® Superscore?
Let’s take a student from 2022 for example, although his total scores for the three tests were all 1300, he received a 1500 for his SAT® Superscore.
Date | English | Math | Total |
2022/3 | 700 | 600 | 1300 |
2022/8 | 600 | 700 | 1300 |
2022/10 | 800 | 500 | 1300 |
Super score | 800 | 700 | 1500 |
3)How can test takers submit their Superscore to the universities?
Actually, most SAT® scores in a university application form is already a SAT® Superscore. While students are filling in their test scores, there are usually several question for test takers to fill in:
- Highest evidence-based reading and writing score
- Evidence-based reading and writing date
- Highest math score
- Math date
Though there’s no ‘Superscore’ on an application form, colleges can still know whether a test taker has received their highest scores on the same day or not.
4)Can’t we just get a higher superscore by taking more tests?
It’s possible to raise cheating suspicion by the College Board if you take too many SAT tests, thereby affecting your college application. Thus, we recommend that you should take it less than 3 times.
5.Lots of American Universities No Longer Require SAT® Score (Test-Optional), Is It Still Necessary to Submit It?
For those who are better at extracurricular activities than academic performance, not submitting SAT scores will indeed enhance their strength, but submitting one can still prove your competitiveness. 80% ~ 85% of students submit their SAT® score while applying for universities, and it’s still one of the barriers for top schools. (Except for the UC colleges , which have officially announced that they are no longer accepting SAT scores)
6.What Universities Can We Apply For With SAT® Score Besides American Ones?
1.Canada, Australia, and New Zealand:
SAT® isn’t required, especially when you apply with an IB® score, but you may still submit it as a plus.
2.UK:
It’s highly recommend to submit SAT® score if you apply with AP®. On the other hand, when applying with IB® or A-level®, SAT® isn’t required.
3.Hong Kong and Singapore:
SAT® isn’t required, but you may still submit it as a plus.
For application in these countries, SAT® isn’t the requirement. Our advice is to put your effort into maintaining your academic performance, or prepare for other standardized test (TOEFL®, IELTS® etc.). You may prepare for the SAT when all of the other entry requirements has been met.
Last but not least, there is a large difference for the SAT® requirements from different countries, schools, or major, and test takers must understand which extent they need toreach and strive for to better their chances for their dream schools.
